Nancy Pelosi’s travel to Taiwan will cost the US heavily, as per China’s warning
According to a statement from the ministry, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi stated on Tuesday that American politicians who “play with fire” on the Taiwan matter will “come to no good end.”
He did not name a specific American politician. Nancy Pelosi, the speaker of the US House of Representatives, has been invited to visit Taiwan, but China has voiced an objection. Nancy Pelosi was in Malaysia, and China is furious over her planned trip to Taiwan.
Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan would be seen as a “serious provocation,” as China, which claims Taiwan as part of its territory, has repeatedly warned. US-China relations have risen as a result of reports about her ambitions.
“The US side will bear the responsibility and pay the price for undermining China’s sovereign security interests,” foreign ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said at a regular press briefing in Beijing.
The Chinese Embassy in India’s spokesperson, Wang Xiaojian, has also issued a statement notifying the US of Nancy Pelosi’s arrival. In a statement, Wang Xiaojian said Nancy Pelosi’s visit would be “met with resolute countermeasures”.
Chinese President Xi Jinping cautioned the US against “playing with fire” on Taiwan during a phone discussion with US President Joe Biden last week. Additionally, Zhang Hun, China’s ambassador to the UN, stated on Monday that such a visit would be “very dangerous and provocative.”
Although a trip to Taiwan is reportedly opposed by the Biden administration, Pelosi is free to travel wherever she pleases, according to White House National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby.
According to John Kirby, there is intelligence that China is getting ready for potential military provocations.
Nancy Pelosi, according to Kirby, was flying in a military plane. Although Washington did not worry about a direct assault, he claimed that it “raises the stakes of a miscalculation”.
However, according to John Kirby, US policy toward Taiwan remains unchanged, meaning that Washington continues to back Taiwan’s self-governing government while diplomatically privileging Beijing over Taipei and opposing either a formal declaration of independence by Taiwan or a violent takeover by China.
