Egypt captain and Premier League golden boot winner Mohamed Salah has been left out of UEFA’s men’s player of the year shortlist despite all his achievements lately and winning the PFA Players’ Player of the Year award at the end of last season.
A shortlist of 15 players has been released with Kevin de Bruyne, only as an inclusion of Premier League, Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema and Thibaut Courtois.
The first 15 lot was picked by the UEFA technical study group based on players’ performance in the 2021/22 season at both club and international platforms.
Meanwhile, Salah had netted 23 goals and was crowned with the golden boot jointly with Tottenham’s Son Heung-min. The Egyptian scored a further 8 goals in 11 Champions League games and helped Liverpool to FA and Carabao Cup glories, while also helping the West London club reach the Champions League final.
On the other hand, City’s de Bruyne scored 15 Premier League goals and only netted two times in Europe’s top league competition.
Also, Frenchman Karim Benzema will be looking to lift the glory after his stupendous performance in the last Champions League tournament, Real won their 14th title.
Salah has been open and clear about winning individual honours and enjoy the success for both club and nation.
“For this year, the defeat against Real Madrid is a disadvantage, even if I played a good game in the final. But it doesn’t cancel out everything I’ve achieved for months. Let’s wait for the vote. And if I’m not Ballon d’Or in 2022, I’ll do everything I can to be the next one.” said the Liverpool star.
