Hackers in Andhra Pradesh stole $215,000 from a retired teacher’s bank account
According to reports, cybercriminals used a WhatsApp link to reportedly hack the bank account of a former teacher in Annamayya and stole Rs 21 lakh.
Varalakshi, a citizen of Reddeppanaidu Colony in Madanapalle town of the Annamayya district, allegedly did receive a WhatsApp text from an unknown user. The WhatsApp message contained a link that, when clicked, debited money from her bank account. Varalakshi asserted that ever since she has just been receiving notifications that money has been taken out of her account. She learned that her account had been hacked and also that Rs 21 lakh had been withdrawn after getting in touch with bank representatives. On Saturday, Varalakshi reported the theft to the Cybercrime Police.
Inspector Muralikrishna of the Two Town Circle reported that for several days cyber criminals were sending links to WhatsApp numbers, then they are hacking accounts, and taking money out of those accounts.
Gnanaprakash, a software employee from Madanapalle, recently had Rs 12 lakh robbed from his account by cybercriminals, the report reads. The source continued, The complaint was filed the very following morning stating that Rs 21 lakh had been stolen from former teacher Varalakshmi’s bank account. A probe of the situation is being conducted.
