Social Media Security: 6 ways to keep your password safe and secure

In order to safeguard yourself in this digital world, passwords are the first line of defense against unauthorized access to your accounts.

As useful as the internet is, so present are the dangers that threaten users. The COVID-19 pandemic is moving us toward increased technological innovation, but cybercrime is also on the rise.

In order to safeguard yourself in this digital world, passwords are the first line of defense against unauthorized access to your accounts.

Here are some ways to keep your password safe and secure:

1. Always try to create a password between 8-20 characters long. If possible, try to make a combo of symbols, numbers, uppercase and lowercase letters. Use at least one number or symbol (like #$!@%^).

2. Whenever you create a new ID, don’t use the same password you use for your email or other online services.

3. Avoid using common sequences of numbers like 123456, 987654 etc.

4. Sign out every time you log in. Doing so will help you in memorizing your password.

5. Don’t just rely on a username and password to log in. If your social media service offers two-factor authentication (2FA), then enable it.

6. By leveraging a password manager, you can also store passwords for your different accounts. You only need to remember one password for the password manager.
