Can Apple’s AirPods replace hearing aid? Let’s see what the researchers have to say
According to research, persons with mild to moderate hearing loss can use Apple’s AirPods Pro as hearing aids. This is supported by a study done by researchers at the Taipei Veterans General Hospital in Taiwan in a ScienceAlert report. The researchers examined the hearing of 21 people with mild to moderate hearing loss using expensive hearing aids, affordable hearing aids, AirPods Pro, and AirPods Gen 2 models.
The AirPods were attached to an iPhone, which was running the “Live Listen” environmental noise amplifier software. Researchers presented brief words to volunteers and asked them to repeat them again. If the listener was not surrounded by the noisy environment, the AirPods Pro performed better.
In quiet environments, AirPods Pro performed almost as well as inexpensive hearing aids.
Even though the AirPods 2 weren’t as effective as hearing aids, they were still better than having no assistance at all. Additionally, both AirPods functioned poorly and almost became worthless when the listener was directly in a noisy environment.
However, the researchers claim that the AirPods Pro performs better than the conventional AirPods 2 because of their active noise canceling.
Researchers also observed that many people might feel more at ease wearing AirPods constantly because of the stigma attached to wearing hearing aids. Furthermore, they typically need fitting and adjusting by medical professionals, which can take some time.
So, in conclusion, it is said that the Airpods Pro cannot completely but somehow be an alternative for people with mild hearing problems.
