Xiaomi To Cut Up To 10% of Workforce – Begins Layoffs

The Chinese company Xiaomi is one of the biggest tech companies out there. People really like the mid-range devices of the tech giant and it makes it one of the reasons for being a big seller. The Beijing-based company has shipped more than 190 million smartphone units in 2021.

Being a tech giant, the company naturally employs a lot of individuals over the years. As per the records, the company employed more than 35,300 workers in September of this year.

Now as we are entering a new year, Xiaomi has begun large-scale layoffs. Starting this week, Xiaomi plans to reduce its workforce by up to 10 percent.

“Recently implemented routine personnel optimization and organizational streamlining, with affected parties totalling less than 10% of total workforce,” said the company in an official statement on Tuesday as mentioned by CNET.

As of September 30th, Xiaomi’s total headcount was 35,314 workers. Chinese local media reported the news of the layoffs. Apart from employees from the homeland, Xiaomi also had Indian and Indonesian employees.

Other big companies such as Meta, Twitter, and Amazon have also undergone large-scale layoffs in recent times.
