2020 and TikTok: A year in review of the most popular clips on the internet
2020 was the year of many things, including the world being hit by a global pandemic and all of us socially distancing at our homes. The internet and everyone on it collectively turned to one social media app to cure the long hours of boredom: TikTok. With sensational dance trends, challenges and duets, unless you live under a rock, TikTok has somehow become a part of your life and most of us are guilty of trying a few moves as well.
Here’s our roundup of the most viral TikToks of 2020, and some of our personal favouites.
PS since TikTok isn’t accessible in India, the links provided are to YouTube videos featuring TikToks. Enjoy!
- The Renegade
Choreographed by 14-year-old Jalilah Harmon, this dance, song and choreography took the internet by storm. Here’s a video of Jalilah performing on The Ellen Show.
2. Dalgona Coffee
The very iconic, whipped coffee made rounds during the beginning of quarantine. With just three ingredients, this simple, yet satisfying recipe helped with the Starbucks cravings and all-nighters, or was just a fun wake-up for many.
3. Cloud Bread
Along the same tangent of cooking tutorials, this super simple and mesmerizing dessert also went viral on TikTok, with everyone having their own versions and flavours.
4. The “You have to stop…” voiceover clips
These started out with motivations and affirmations and quickly turned into exaggerated, silly yet hilarious memes.
5. Rating.. just about everything
This trend probably started off with people rating fictional characters but quickly snowballed into them rating the most mundane and trivial things, that once again proved to be ridiculously funny
These are just a few of our favourites, and with a new TikTok trend every week, we’ll probably keep adding more to our own personal favourites!
