Delhi Government will no longer register ICE vehicles (petrol) Two-Wheeler starting August 2026

For many years Delhi Government has been taking initiatives to reduce the pollution in the state but the conditions only worsened last year it was reported that Delhi is the most polluted city in India with air quality in the severe category. Even today the air quality has only reached to moderate category sparking concerns.

Well, it is now revealed that the Delhi Government has prepared a draft EV 2.0 policy which is expected to be placed before the cabinet for approval soon. As part of this upcoming policy, it is said that the Delhi Government will no longer register ICE vehicles (petrol) two-wheelers starting August 2026.

This means that you will have to purchase an electric two-wheeler if you buy one in or after August 2024. This move is expected to accelerate the transition to cleaner mobility in the capital.

Apart from this the new policy also proposes mandating any household purchasing a third four-wheeler, opt for an electric vehicle. Also from August 2025, the government will stop registering non-electric passenger and carrier three-wheelers, ensuring that all autorickshaws older than 10 years are either replaced or retrofitted with electronic alternatives. The government is also said to be working on expanding EV charging infrastructure to support this move.

The aim is to achieve 95% EV penetration by 2027 in Delhi. The current EV policy expires on 31st March and if the cabinet approves the draft EV 2.0 Policy, new rules will be implemented from 1st April.
