Ford introduces a new accessory to recharge stranded Teslas

Ford surprises with the new F-150 Lightning’s bi-directional charging capability, which allows owners to use the massive battery of the electric truck to charge other EVs, including a new accessory to recharge stranded Teslas.

Lentz, an EV charging company, has released a new accessory for Tesla vehicles, a J1772 Adapter.

While most electric vehicles use a standard J1772 charging connector, Tesla uses a proprietary connector found at the company’s Supercharger network though the company has recently announced plans to open its chargers to non-Tesla EVs.

Ford has been trying to promote the F-150 Lightning’s Pro Power Onboard generator feature since its debut a year ago.

All truck models can generate up to 2.4 kilowatts of power from outlets in the trunk, cabin, and bed. The capability can be increased to 9.6 kilowatts as an option for certain trims.

The higher-output version includes a 240-volt, 30-amp outlet in the bed for a variety of higher-draw needs, such as charging another EV at 7.2 kilowatts.
