Honda revealed its first two wheeler electric vehicle with swappable batteries
Following the plan to introduce 10 or more electric two-wheelers globally by 2025, Honda has revealed the first electric vehicle. This two-wheeler EV has been revealed in Europe with the EM1 name. This new two-wheeler EV can also be seen as Honda’s first step towards its stated aim of achieving carbon neutrality for all its motorcycle lineups during the 2040s. Honda, recognizing the importance of sustainable mobility entered into consortiums to develop standardized swappable batteries.
The EM 1 comes with a swappable Honda Mobile Power Pack which delivers a range of 41.3 Km and 45 Kph of top speed. Its in-wheel motor is rated at 0.58kW output and produces 1.7 kW at peak. It can climb at a 10deg angle with 75 kg on it. As soon as you switch to ECON mode the top speed will be reduced extending the range up to 48 km. The EM 1 is 1,860 mm long and has a 740mm seat height. Ground clearance is 135mm and weight is just 95kg. Its tires are sized 90/90-12 front and 100/90-10 rear. It is equipped with a Combined Brake System so that every time a smooth brake is activated. It’s easy to remove and swap the battery making it easy to charge it through a bespoke charging unit.
Other than these features the EV also brings a digital dash, high-quality switchgear, a long floor area, seat storage space, and under-seat storage space.
Swappable battery
Its in-house developed lithium-ion battery can withstand temperature, humidity, and vibrations. It’s easy to remove at home and can be charged. It weighs 5.3 Kg and comes with an LED indicator that reflects the charging status of the battery. This battery takes just 6 hours to get charged full and just 2.5 hours to reach 75% from 25%.
Equipment
The rest of the system of the scooter is powered by a 12V battery. A digital dash to reflect all required information including battery, speed, etc. It has 3.3 liters of large storage under the seat and an inner pocket with a 500 ml water bottle storage capacity. You can also charge the smartphone battery with the USB socket in it. A handy hook lets riders hang a bag from there and enjoy the ride.
