AMG brought a C63 prototype that was almost ready for production to the Goodwood Festival of Speed earlier this year. The sporty sedan will now be revealed. There isn’t much we don’t know about the BMW M3 competitor, but we’re curious to see how the performance of these fascinating technological elements will transfer into actual driving. In contrast to its rear-wheel-drive predecessor, the next model will only be available with 4Matic.
To address the major problem in the room, the V8 is now formally a thing of the past. The 2.0-liter M139 from the “45” models will be employed in the new C63, but with more power and longitudinal mounting, the people from Affalterbach have stated numerous times. The car will indeed be a plug-in hybrid. A rear-mounted electric motor will be powered by a 6.1 kWh battery.
Although the cylinder count reduction will likely upset purists, the flagship C-Class should nevertheless accelerate quickly thanks to its combined 670 horsepower. We can only hope that the C63 Estate, a hot wagon that will compete with the M3 Touring, a brand-new rival, will also be unveiled. Aside: Beginning in 2023, new M vehicles will also be plug-in hybrids. The inline-six and V8 will be used by the Bavarians until at least 2030, and they don’t have any intentions to scale back the size of their combustion engines.
The AMG C63 should have an electric range due to its PHEV design, but because of the short battery, the combustion engine will start operating more frequently than not. Although the four-cylinder engine is lighter than the original V8, weight is a concern because hybrid-related components will surely add weight, and it wouldn’t surprise us if it ended up being substantially heavier than its predecessor.
The world premiere is scheduled for September 21 on a Wednesday. AMG won’t be releasing another C63 Coupe and Cabriolet because the CLE, which is made up of the two-door C-Class and E-Class vehicles, will replace them.
