On World Electric Vehicle Day 2022, Tata Motors surprised everyone by announcing the all-new Tiago EV

Tata Motors surprised everyone by announcing the all-new Tiago EV on World Electric Vehicle (EV) Day 2022. With the new Tiago EV, Tata Motors intends to strengthen its presence in the electric mobility space, which it already dominates with an 88 percent market share. The new Tata Tiago EV will also be the company’s most affordable electric vehicle, joining the Tigor EV and Nexon EV in its lineup.

The new Tata Tiago EV, like the Nexon EV and Tigor EV, will be designed around its IC engine version. The Tiago EV is expected to retain the exterior design of the petrol-powered Tiago while adding EV-specific elements such as a closed grille at the front and blue highlights all around, as it has done with the Tigor EV. The blue highlights are expected to be on the front fascia, boot lid garnish, and wheel caps or alloy wheels.

The new Tata Tiago EV is also expected to retain the Tigor petrol’s cabin layout, with a dual-tone black and grey interior theme. The car may also get blue highlights around the instrument console and center console, both of which will be shared with the Tigor EV, as well as the Tigor EV’s transmission knob in the lower center console.

While Tata Motors has not revealed any details about its powertrain, the Tiago EV is expected to have the same combination of front-mounted electric motor and battery as the Tigor EV. The Tigor EV currently has a front-mounted electric motor capable of producing 75 PS of power and 170 Nm of torque, and the Tiago EV is expected to have the same performance numbers. Aside from the motor, the Tiago EV may share the Tigor EV’s 26 kWh lithium-ion battery pack.

In the Tigor EV, this battery pack claims a maximum driving range of 306 km, and it will be interesting to see how much range this battery will offer in the Tiago EV. Tata hopes to achieve 30 percent electric vehicle penetration by 2030, with the Tiago EV becoming its most affordable electric vehicle for India. The Nexon EV Max, which has a more powerful motor and a larger battery pack, was recently added to the Indian automaker’s EV lineup. It also debuted a new range-topping Prime variant for the regular Nexon EV, which includes some features from the Nexon EV Max.

The Tata Tiago EV will allow the company to reach a broader audience. The Tata Tigor EV is currently the most affordable EV in India, with a price tag of Rs 12.24 lakhs.
