Sebastian Vettel drives 100-year-old Aston Martin ahead of French GP
German racer and four time World Champion Sebastian Vettel has raced many iconic cars in the span of 15 years of his F1 career. He had also purchased Nigel Mansell’s 1992 championship-winning Williams.
The F1 racer now, will be again behind the wheel of an iconic car. Vettel will be doing a celebratory lap on the Aston Martin TT1. The car is 100 years old and first featured in the 1922 French GP.
The car has been built by founder of the company, Lionel Martin. Louis Zborowski drove the TT1 and Clive Gallop for TT2. And after 100 years the car will hit the tarmac at the Paul Ricard circuit.
When the news came that Vettel will be driving the iconic machinery ahead of the race, the German was thrilled to know the same. The car is unlike any other cars these days, but the chance to link the two stories are a special honour indeed.
“It’s crazy to imagine how long it’s been around, but great to see that it’s still there. And I’m very much looking forward to getting behind the wheel. I guess it will be very, very different to what I’m used to, but that’s the whole idea of it.” said the German F1 racer.
The car, known as the ‘Green Pea’, had debuted in July 1922 French Grand Prix at Strasbourg but had an early retirement due to an engine failure.
