Sony and Honda’s First Electric Car “AFEELA 1” Brings 483-Kilometer Range and Loads of Tech for $89,900

Here’s what we know about Sony Honda’s brand new car. The AFEELA 1, just shown off at CES 2025, will be produced at a state-of-art plant in Ohio. This all-electric vehicle is the first product from Sony Honda Mobility (SHM) under the AFEELA brand.

This car is packed with tech. It features AFEELA Intelligent Drive, the company’s own advanced driver assistance system, with 40 different sensors including cameras, LiDAR, radars, and ultrasonic sensors. The brain behind it all is an ECU with computing power of up to 800 TOPS, using AI to help with perception, prediction, and planning. It even shows you what’s happening around the car using Unreal Engine on the display.

Inside, it’s all about what Sony Honda calls “Mobility as a Creative Entertainment Space.” Each seat gets its own display and speakers, with Sony’s 360 Spatial Sound Technologies and special noise-canceling tech making everything sound amazing. The oval-themed design aims for comfort both inside and out, with sleek surfaces and no unnecessary decorative lines. About 70% of the interior surfaces use eco-friendly materials, and they’ve even used recycled materials in the body steel plate and chassis.

On the road, the car uses a 3D Motion Management System that controls the motor, brakes, and suspension for a smooth ride on any surface. It should go about 483 kilometers (300 miles) on a charge, and you can use Tesla’s Supercharger stations across the US. Color choices include Tidal Gray, Calm White, and Core Black, with the Signature model offering both Black and Gray interior options.

“We are very pleased to unveil AFEELA 1, developed for the era of autonomous driving, at CES 2025. AFEELA 1 can be called a buddy, combining advanced software with meticulously refined hardware. We will meet our customers’ expectations by providing a safe, secure, and comfortable travel experience,” said Yasuhide Mizuno, Chairperson and CEO of Sony Honda Mobility Inc.
