The fitment and repair process, at the unauthorised workshop led to thermal incident in Nexon EV: Tata Motors
On 16th April a video of the Nexon EV being doused with water surfaced on the internet. The car’s front left portion was completely burned and damaged due to the fire. This video belonged to Pune, Katraj and now Tata Motors has issued an official statement in regard to this incident after a detailed investigation.
In the statement, it informed, “All occupants are safe. A team of technical experts has concluded a detailed investigation of this incident”.
According to the investigation, they found that the vehicle recently underwent repair at an unauthorized workshop. It further wrote in the statement “The fitment and repair process, at the unauthorized workshop, had shortcomings, which caused an electrical malfunction in the headlamp area leading to the thermal incident”.
Tata Motors has also made an appeal to the customers “The automotive market is constantly evolving with new technologies and modern electronic parts, both in ICE cars and EVs, which requires trained craftsmanship”. “For the safety of our users, we urge our customers to get their vehicles fitted with on-spec components, accessories, and spare parts at authorized Tata Motors workshop, to avoid any such incidents”.
These unauthorized workshops either don’t have skilled mechanics or use fake spare parts which cause major issues like this. According to a 2019 report by Authentication Solution Providers’ Association, the counterfeit product industry in India is worth Rs 1 lakh crore. The market of counterfeit auto parts industry is also growing, causing a significant loss to the government and customers as well.
