The Vento successor has finally been introduced by Volkswagen India, and it is really lovely. Let’s compare Volkswagen Virtus 1.0 and Virtus 1.5.
Design
The Virtus 1.5-liter features GT badging on the front, in profile, and even at the back. Unquestionably, the vehicle has a dynamic aspect thanks to its single-slat grille with chrome surrounds LED headlamps, and L-shaped LED DRLs. The 16-inch alloy wheels on the 1.5 TSI are blacked-out, but they are otherwise identical.
The 1.0 TSI receives the dual-tone treatment. The contrast black on the roof and ORVMs, the wrap-around LED taillights, the Virtus insignia on the boot lid, and the boot-mounted number plate recess complete the remainder of the athletic appearance. A faux spoiler is also added to the 1.5-liter Virtus’ back end.
Interior
The Wild Cherry Red color job of the 1.5 TSI Virtus is distinguished by Red dashboard highlights. Apart from that, most components, including the 10.1-inch Play infotainment system and automated climate control, are similar between the top-spec versions of the Virtus 1.5 TSI and the 1.0 TSI. The ventilated seats for the front passengers are a unique feature on the top specs. Along with the motorized sunroof, another feature offered with the top-spec version, you also get an instrument panel that is entirely digital.
Dimensions
The Virtus is the segment’s longest and widest vehicle in terms of size.
On the Virtus, the second row has a considerable amount of room. There is sufficient headroom as well as leg room. The under-thigh support is also decent and makes us feel comfortable. There is a center armrest and AC vents for the second row of passengers, and the seats are also fairly comfy. There are two Type C ports for charging.
Other features
Reviews indicate that the 1.0-liter Virtus engine operates best between 1,800 and 1,900 rpm. Although the turbo doesn’t start spinning until 2,000 rpm, the power is still more than sufficient even at the lower end of the rev range. Both the lovely engine noise and the rev-happy movement are like music to the ears.
The engine does not run out of air even when under intense pressure, and the in-gear acceleration is brisk. The Virtus is quite comfortable hitting triple digits on highways and wants to stay there all day.
The company claims that the suspension is adjusted to handle the rough roads of India because the Virtus is built on the Group’s MQB-A0-IN platform. The same 16-inch alloy wheels are mounted on the 1.0-liter and 1.5-liter engines, and they both have 205/55 tires, which provide enough dampening to make the ride smooth.
Volkswagen claims that the 1.0-liter variants achieve healthy mileage of 19.40 km/l in the manual and 18.12 km/l in the automatic, compared to 18.67 km/l for the 1.5-liter.
Price
The Volkswagen Virtus 1.0 costs Rs. 11.32 lakh whereas the Virtus 1.5 costs Rs. 18.42 lakhs. They are both an average ex-showroom price.
