Affordable JioPhone Next is expected to cost around Rs 3,499
Before Diwali, Reliance will unveil the 'world's most cheap' JioPhone Next. The phone is designed to assist India's estimated 300 million 2G consumers in making the switch to 4G without breaking the bank.
The JioPhone Next, the latest smartphone from Reliance Industries in collaboration with Google, is expected to hit the market before Diwali.
Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani and Google CEO Sundar Pichai introduced the ultra-affordable 4G handset during RIL’s annual general meeting (AGM) on June 24, 2021. During the launch, Ambani stated that the JioPhone Next will be the “world’s most cheap smartphone.”
Reliance recently revealed some details about the JioPhone Next, including how it collaborated with Google to create a smartphone produced in India.
The phone is designed to make it easier for India’s estimated 300 million 2G users to upgrade to 4G without breaking the bank. The phone runs on a “highly optimized version” of the Android operating system, which was co-developed by Google and Jio and is specifically designed for the Indian market.
Automatic read-aloud of screen text, language translation, a smart camera with augmented reality filters, and a voice assistant are all included in the JioPhone Next.
Google also collaborated closely with the Jio team on engineering and product development for voice-first capabilities that allow JioPhone Next customers to consume content and operate the OS in their own language, as well as receive the most up-to-date Android feature and security upgrades.
The phone was supposed to arrive in India on Ganesh Chaturthi, September 10th, however, it was postponed owing to a global semiconductor shortage.
