Alphabet Inc’s Google to be Sued by US Justice Department: Here’s What We Know

The Department of Justice in the United States has filed a lawsuit against Google for its anticompetitive practices and for abusing its power which it has over digital advertising.

Justice Department in the United States Sues Alphabet Inc’s Google

The Department of Justice has filed a lawsuit against Google for all the misconducts the company has been following in the field of digital advertising which has eliminated the place of its other rival companies.

The Attorney General of the United States, Merrick Garland announced the lawsuit on Tuesday, 24th of January 2023 in Washington. He has also spoken regarding how Google has been practicing unfair means for about 15 years to eliminate the rise of other companies and regarding how Google has manipulated the auction mechanics to protect itself from the competition of its rival companies.

The actions of Google has also forced advertisers and publishers to use only its tools which has led to the elimination of other companies in the advertising industry.

Eight states in the United States has joined the lawsuit which includes the states of Colorado, Connecticut, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Virginia and Google’s home state – California.

Google has also responded by saying that the accusations against the company is based on a false argument. The actions which are going to be taken by the government will also make it difficult for small companies and publishers to develop, says Google.

However this lawsuit is the second Federal Antitrust Complaint against Google and the first was filed in 2020 regarding Google’s monopoly over online search.
