Amazon’s early investor, Tom Alberg, passes away at 82

Businessman, Tom Alberg passed away on Friday, 6 August 2022. He was 82 years old at the time of death. Tom Alberg was a Seattle businessperson who constructed and invested in various business. Tom was also an early investor of Amazon. His contributions exists in the fields of e-commerce to wireless communications. 

Tom Alberg is widely known for his early investment in Amazon. He was also the director of Amazon from June 1996 to May 2019. Professionally he was also a lawyer to aerospace and tech companies and founded the Madrona Venture Group. Madrona released a statement on Friday informing his death. 

Alberg was also a champion of Pacific Northwest Tech. Additionally he was the executive vice president of McCaw Cellular Communications. It was a groundbreaking telecom company. 

Alberg’s Madrona Venture Group facilitated the birth and growth of some of the best-known tech companies in the region. Tom also led a major hand in the creation of the Alliance of Angels. This organization helped early stage startups in their path to success. 

Jeff Bezos, founder, executive chairman and CEO of Amazon mourned Tom Alberg’s death. He tweeted on Twitter remembering Tom as his friend. He stated that Tom was on board with Amazon for 23 years. Jeff Bezos also expressed in his tweet that Tom was a visionary man. He mentioned that he was lucky to have T and along with many others, he will miss him dearly.
