CEO arrested for selling $ 1 billion in fake Cisco hardware on Amazon, eBay
The CEO of a lot of dozen of companies, Onur Aksoy was allegedly arrested for selling more than $1 billion worth of fake Cisco network equipment to customers globally which even including health, military, and government organizations.
Aksoy imported tens of thousands of fake Cisco devices from China and Hong Kong where he created at least 19 companies in New Jersey and Florida and dubbed the pro network which helped him resell the hardware as an authenticated one through various sites of the e-commerce. According to the justice department, the operation generated over $100 million in revenue, and Aksoy even received millions of dollars for his personal benefit.
Aksoy who sold the Cisco equipment was usually older, lower-end models that were either previously bought or were discarded. The frauds in China then modified the equipment by making the device newer and also more expensive than other Cisco product models.
The Justice department even stated that the frauds often pirated Cisco software and also used unauthorized unreliable components which even included components to avoid technological measures which are added by Cisco to the software to check for software license compliance and also to authenticate the hardware. He further added that the products were packaged with labels, boxes, and documentation that looked authentic.
