Elon Musk says Tesla is facing a lot of challenges with the Indian Government

Recently, a question has been made by a Twitter user Pranay Pathole. He, in a tweet asks, “Yo @elonmusk any further update as to when Tesla’s will launch in India? They’re pretty awesome and deserve to be in every corner of the world! ”

Tesla CEO and founder, Elon Musk responds him by stating that Tesla is facing challenges with the Indian Government. He tweets,” Still working through a lot of challenges with the government”.

Musk says that his company Tesla is facing problems because of imposition of heavy import tariffs on electric vehicles by the Indian government. It levies 60% import taxes on EVs below  the custom value of $40000 while for EVs above $40000, the import taxes are 100%.Usually all the Tesla cars are above $40000, important tariffs of 100% are being levied on its vehicles.

Musk asks the government to regulate the import duties. He has also urged for a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Musk says that if the desired changes are  made in the import duties, India’s EV market would be boosted.

Government has approved  around 7 Tesla models last year in 2021. Rail and Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari has assured Tesla all the tax benefits from the government if Tesla starts its manufacturing in the country.
