Foxconn to create 50,000 job opportunities with new iPhone manufacturing plant at Bengaluru
The Taiwan-based Electronics company Foxconn is planning to manufacture iPhones at their Devanahalli plant in Bengaluru, Karnataka. Foxconn would execute this plan from April 2024. The announcement comes in after a team visit from Foxconn, led by George Chu. The meeting was also presided over by Karnataka State IT-BT Minister Priyank Kharge.
Foxconn is one of Apple’s largest suppliers and manufacturers. The firm bought a 1.2m sqm (13m sqft) plot in Bengaluru, Karnataka. This new initiative would open up about 50,000 jobs.
Foxconn has been manufacturing older versions of iPhones in Tamil Nadu since 2017.
Reports stated that the project is valued at $1.59bn. The firm is planning to invest $700m in this new plant. Reports also mentioned that Karnataka would hand over the land for the plant on 1 July.
As of now, the firm has paid 30 % of the total cost, which amounts to Rs 90 crore to the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB).
The firm is planning to complete the construction of the plant in three different phases. With this plant, Foxconn has set a goal of 20 million iPhones manufactured per year.
India is a nation where 5% of total iPhone manufacturing happens. When it comes to India, the manufacturing of the iPhone happens by different Apple suppliers.
