Hotel Giant Marriott confirms another data breach
Hotel Giant Marriott confirms that it is the second data breach this year. The hackers took away sensitive data of the Hotel along with the customer’s card details.
However, according to DataBreaches.net, 20 Gigabytes (GB) of data has been stolen by an unrecognised hacking group. It also claimed that they used social engineering to trick the hotel employee and take access to their computer’s.
The hacking group has stealed customers’ names, card numbers, and hotel’s confidential information. According to the reports, around 300 to 400 customers who are already affected by the data breaching, have been informed by the Hotel.
The Giant Marriott spokesperson Melissa Froehlich Flood gave a statement to TechCrunch, ‘Marriott International is aware of a threat actor who used social engineering to trick one associate at a single Marriott hotel into providing access to the associate’s computer’. ‘The threat actor did not gain access to Marriott’s core network’, Melissa added.
However, this data breach attack is reported to be far less severe than the previous data breaching attacks.
Two year before, the Hotel Giant Marriott confirmed that it was affected by database breach. It affected 500 million guests of the Starwood hotel network which was obtained by Marriott in 2016.
