Huawei signs a Global Patent Cross Licensing Agreement with smartphone brand Vivo

The Chinese manufacturer Huawei has license deals with most of the major smartphone makers and it has also started or renewed patent cross license agreement with other manufacturers in the past years like- Samsung, Oppo, Nokia, Xiaomi and more.

Today Huawei has officially signed a global patent cross licensing agreement with Vivo that covers cellular Standard Essential Patents, including those for 5G. According to Alan Fan, Head of Huawei’s Intellectual Property Department, “Huawei is pleased to have reached the agreement with Vivo through amicable negotiation. The licensing agreement reflects our mutual respect for the value of each other’s patents. It also demonstrates that the industry is working together. We’re collectively investing in fundamental research and we’re committed to standardizing and sharing the fruits of innovation. In the it’s all about providing people around the world with better products and services.” Although Huawei has not officially revealed the terms of it’s agreement with Vivo.

Apart from this, Huawei has also signed a multi-year patent licensing deal that resolves litigation between them. Meanwhile, Vivo has recently also signed cross license 5G patent deal with Nokia and the long term dispute between the two companies has now been resolved.
