In an online outburst, Twitter founder Jack Dorsey blames the media for ‘creating conflict,’ just a day after criticizing Elon Musk’s hostile takeover bid and the board’s ‘dysfunctional plots and coups’
On Monday night, the co-founder of Twitter unleashed a scathing attack on the media, accusing news organizations of “sowing doubts to encourage white supremacy and garner interaction.”
The remarks came just one day after he chastised Twitter’s board of directors, of which he is a member, for being consumed with ‘plots and coups’ in the wake of Elon Musk’s failed takeover effort.
Dorsey, who recently resigned as Twitter’s CEO in November, slammed CNN and then Fox News.
When CNN’s media reporter Brian Stelter tweeted a link to an op-ed criticizing Fox’s Tucker Carlson for “selling doubt,” Dorsey responded, “And you all are selling hope?”
Alex Salvi of Newsmax joined in next, claiming that Dorsey was protecting the thorny Fox anchor.
Dorsey responded that he is not defending anything. He is just holding a mirror up.
‘I thought his point was that the press does the same thing, sowing doubt to promote white supremacy and get engagement, often amplifying bad takes,’ venture capitalist Ellen Pao added, ‘but now I’m not sure anymore.’
The 45-year-old said that they have seen both the positive and negative effects of Twitter.
He believes that the present ad model for all media, not just social media, is the common denominator.
