Lenovo And Motorola Banned From Selling Their Smartphones In Germany
A recent ruling by the Munich regional court has banned Lenovo and Motorola Mobility from selling all devices with a WWAN module, i.e. technology for mobile Internet access via mobile networks. The court in its judgment mentioned that the company is violating a patent of US technology developer InterDigital and has not met the company’s demand for fair and reasonable fees. As per the reports the company might also have to pay compensation to InterDigital.
Lenovo believes that IDC has itself violated the legal obligations to license its technology to the company on fair terms and looking forward to the next phase of its appeal. This is not the first time that both of the companies have faced each other in the courtroom because just a year ago they came face to face in the High Court of Great Britain.
Lenovo won that case and the court in its ruling mentioned that “InterDigital’s global cellular royalty rate should be US$0.175 per unit”. InterDigital has yet not accepted the defeat and lodged an appeal against this in the court and a recent ruling in favor of the plaintiff in the Munich regional court would for sure motivate the company to fight with double power where it has lost.
