Mahindra introduces new electrification venture ‘Born Electric Vision’

The domestic automaker intends to invest approximately 3,000 crore in its electrification plans; this investment is part of the company’s overall investment of 13,000 crore in all of its businesses, including automotive, farm equipment, and so on. Mahindra intends to launch electric versions of four of its SUVs, as well as four all-new electric SUVs.

Mahindra has teased its upcoming electric vehicle concepts via the brand’s official social media handle. The ‘Born Electric Vision’ is the name given by Mahindra to its new electrification venture. The teaser features three electric vehicles (EVs) designed by a team led by Pratap Bose. Mahindra’s UK-based Studio Mahindra Advance Design Europe was in charge of the design and development (MADE).

Pratap Bose previously worked at Tata Motors as the head of design before joining Mahindra last year. Pratap oversaw the design of many successful vehicles, including the Tata Harrier and Safari. The new electric vehicles will be officially unveiled by Mahindra in July 2022.

Mahindra has stated that it will invest approximately 3,000 crores in the development of electric vehicles. Mahindra’s upcoming electric vehicles will be featured in the automaker’s Born Electric Vision. This is an exclusive platform for Mahindra’s EV portfolio. All vehicles built on the platform will have futuristic and bespoke styling. The teaser makes it clear that a domestic automaker is gearing up to enter the Indian electric market with a lineup of vehicles that will stand out from the crowd.

In particular, the company has stated that four vehicles from the current lineup (the XUV300 and XUV700, as well as the Bolero and Scorpio, as likely candidates) will be available with a fully electric drivetrain, with four new electric SUVs to be added to the lineup. As for the three SUVs teased by the company’s social media channels, in addition to directing users to the new Born Electric handles, the designs tie back to Mahindra’s light signature via the DRLs, with one vehicle appearing to be a fresh take on the XUV700, while the other two appear to be a smaller compact SUV, similar to the eXUV300, which has already been spotted testing, and an SUV-coupe – all with even more edgy design and elaborate lighting elements than the current lineup, as well as more prominent wheel arches and bolder surfacing. As is customary with Mahindra concepts, the styling is only a suggestion of the direction the company will take with its future vehicles.
