MoU signed to bid for India’s submarine project under Project 75i; Germany’s TKMS & India’s MDL signed the MoU

ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems (TKMS), Germany and Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders (MDL), India signed a MoU on Wednesday, 7 June 2023, to bid for India’s submarine project. An amount of Rs 43,000 crore has been decided to bid for the project. Under this project, the authorities will manufacture six advanced submarines. This would happen under the “Make in India” programme.

This project was cleared two years back. Called P-75 India, under this project, the authorities will manufacture major defence platforms indigenously.

German defence minister Boris Pistorius graced the occasion on which the MoU was signed. He exchanged talks with Rajnath Singh in Delhi on Tuesday. The minister pitched in front of Rajnath Singh to build the submarines in India.

The new advanced HDW Class 214 submarines have been offered to be manufactured by TKMS. Officials of TKMS expressed that both nations can trust them through years of expertise and professional competence.

India cleared the estimated budget for the project two years back. This was a part of the initiative to strengthen the navy’s capabilities and provide momentum to the defence indigenisation drive.

The present-day update received mixed reactions from netizens. Some people expressed agitation against the decision. They suggested that L&T should be given a chance. Some people were curious about the possible specs of these submarines. Some enquired if the submarines are going to be nuclear power submarines.
