Why NYT buys Wordle?

New York Times has asserted that it aims to engage English-speakers. Moreover, New York Times Games are a part of their strategy. The New York Times Games consists of Mini crossword, Spelling Bee, Letter Boxed, Tiles, and Vertex. The number of subscribers of NYT games touched one million. Wardle, the engineer, says that the inspiration of Wordle has its origin in NYT Games. So, the acquisition of Wordle by NYT was nothing  out of nowhere. NYT Games’ general manager praised Wordle of bringing collective imagination together through it.

Will Wordle remain free?

NYT buys sensational game Wordle but gamers poised concerns whether the game will remain free anymore. The games of NYT Gaming are under a paywall. Forbes reported that paywalling wordle has a logic behind it. It is when a popular game is put in paywall, then the players already in streaks pay to play. NYT has stated that the game would remain free for the time being. Currently, the game’s ease of access plays an essential role in making it popular. Its accessible through any browser on any OS or device. Thus, the purchase might adversely affect its ease of access due to introduction in paywall scheme. However, Wardle has promise to ensure against it.
