Ola Electric recalls 1,441 units of its electric scooter
According to a company statement, Ola Electric is recalling 1,441 units of its electric two-wheelers due to incidents of vehicles catching fire.
The company stated that its investigation into the March 26 fire incident in Pune is ongoing, and preliminary findings indicate that it was an isolated incident.
“As a precautionary measure, we will conduct a detailed diagnostic and health check of the scooters in that specific batch and, as a result, are issuing a voluntary recall of 1,441 vehicles,” it said.
Ola Electric also stated that the scooters will be inspected by its service engineers and will be subjected to a thorough diagnostic check of all battery, thermal, and safety systems. The company claimed that its battery pack already complies with and has been tested for AIS 156, the most recent proposed standard in India, as well as ECE 136, a European standard.
Over a dozen electric scooters have caught fire in recent weeks, including those manufactured by Ola Electric, Okinawa, Pure EV, and Jitendra EV. Aside from the Ola scooter incident last month, an Okinawa scooter also caught fire, killing a man and his 13-year-old daughter.
Earlier this month, more than 20 Jitendra EV electric scooters caught fire while being transported from the company’s factory in Nashik, in what was possibly the largest such incident to date. An electric scooter manufactured by Pure EV caught fire in Telangana’s Nizamabad on Wednesday after its battery exploded, killing an 80-year-old man.
