On the same day that Nikola Tesla died Broke 78 years ago, Elon Musk became the richest person
On Thursday, Tesla Inc.’s share price rose 7.9 percent, bringing Musk past Amazon.com Inc. founder Jeff Bezos to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. Musk is currently worth $194.8 billion, or 9.5 billion more than Bezos.
On January 7, Elon Musk became the richest man in the world, and on the same day, in 1943, Nikola Tesla, who was called Tesla Motors, broke down.
Nikola Tesla
Nikola Tesla (1856-1943) was a Serbian-American engineer and physicist who made scores of breakthroughs in the production, transmission, and application of electrical power. He invented the first alternating current (AC) engine and developed AC generation and transmission technologies. Though renowned and respected, his many inventions, unlike his competitor Thomas Edison, could never be turned into long-term financial success.
Scientists refer to the revolution of the electrical era to Nikola Tesla.
Tesla, an inveterate inventor, has filed over 700 patents on everything from digital networking to fluorescent lighting.
In his last decades, Tesla lived in a hotel in New York, working on new inventions as his strength and mental health faded. As the eccentricities of genius, his obsession with number three and fastidious washing were dismissed. He spent his final years feeding and playing with the city’s pigeons.
Tesla died at the age of 87 on January 7, 1943, in room 3327 of the New York Hotel.
From where Tesla Motors got its name?
The designers’ Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning selected the name Tesla to pay tribute to Nikola Tesla.
According to an old post on the website of the automaker:
‘Without Tesla‘s vision and brilliance, our car wouldn’t be possible. We’re confident that if he were alive today, Nikola Tesla would look over our 100 percent electric car and nod his head with both understanding and approval’.
The irony of Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla Motors, being the richest man in the world on the same day that Nikola Tesla, the name behind the venture, died shattered and lonely in a hotel, cannot be lost to anyone.
