Twitter 2.0 begins tomorrow, reins in the hands of Elon Musk: Here’s what a software engineer says about layoffs and more
The acquisition of Twitter was completed on October 27th, 2022. The reins of the business are now in the hands of Elon Musk. The official phase of Twitter 2.0 begins on November 17th, 2022 onwards. Amidst this, a user named Gergely Orosz posted on Twitter about employee lay-offs and about those who stayed.
He mentioned that several software engineers who are still at Twitter were relieved by the email. Many software engineers wanted to leave Twitter and were interviewed.
However, for those who are on employment visas or work visas, this won’t be easy for them especially. He added in his post that he will be leaving Twitter. He questioned the future of Twitter by also referring to it as Twitter 2.0. He added that Twitter 2.0 will begin tomorrow.
He also shared his thoughts in the comments of his post. He mentioned that making long working hours as well as exceptional performance is the only accepted performance as well as passing grades. This is not great as it has been implemented in countries in the EU which have decent employee protection. He wondered what equity employees would get by working for the world’s richest man Elon Musk.
Other users have also poured in their thoughts in the comments of this post. What is surprising is that Musk fired 50% of the staff after pushing the work over the weekend. And then, in week 2 he called back people whom he had fired. He ended up Work From Home immediately.
