A series of cyberattacks knocked out several Ukrainian websites including its army and banks
On Tuesday, February 15, cyberattacks knocked out several Ukrainian websites including its army, defence ministry and banks’. Over 10 websites were marked unreachable after the cyberattacks amid the tension between Ukraine and Russia. This series of cyberattacks is alleged to be a part of Russia’s invasion.
According to the reports, the sites of the defence ministry, the foreign ministry, culture ministry and two major banks of Ukraine were rendered unreachable after the cyberattack. The two major Ukrainian banks included Privatbank and the government bank, Sberbank. These banks reported some issues in their apps and online transactions. However, the Information Ministry Center for Strategic Communications and Information Security of Ukraine, Zhora agency stated, “There is no threat to depositors’ funds. Nor did the attack affect the communications of Ukraine’s military forces. It is too early to say who was behind the attack.” It also stated that they need to analyse logs from IT providers. Also, the Ukrainian government in a statement mentioned, “It is possible that the aggressor resorted to tactics of petty mischief, because his aggressive plans aren’t working overall.”
Victor Zhora, a Ukrainian cyberdefense official said on Tuesday, “We don’t have any information of other disruptive actions that could be hidden by the DDoS attack. Emergency response teams are working to cut off the attackers and recover the services.”
Earlier on January 17, a cyberattack knocked the Ukraine’s State Emergency Service servers.
