Bipin Rawat Helicopter Crash: Bipin Rawat had been a victim of a tremendous accident even before becoming the army chief, had narrowly survived
India’s Chief of Defense Staff General Bipin Rawat took over as the Army Chief in 2016, a year before he had a helicopter crash during a routine sortie during his deployment to Nagaland.
A Mi-17 helicopter carrying India’s Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat crashed in Kurnool, Tamil Nadu on Wednesday. It has been told that some other army officers were also involved in this helicopter along with his wife. According to reports, the bodies of four people have been recovered so far, while some more seriously injured have been admitted to the hospital. It is expected that the CDS will be safe in this accident. However, this is not the first time that Bipin Rawat has been involved in an air accident. In 2015 too, he narrowly escaped a helicopter crash.
The incident happened in February 2015 when Lt Gen Bipin Rawat was heading the Army’s 3-Corps headquarters in Dimapur. When he left Dimapur in his Cheetah helicopter, suddenly he lost control of his chopper at some height and the helicopter crashed. It is said that at that time the reason behind this incident was the engine failure. General Rawat had suffered minor injuries in this accident.
The army later revealed that the helicopter was able to reach a height of only 20 meters above the ground. During this, some disturbances arose in this single-engine chopper and both its pilots lost control. But there was no news of any loss of life in the crash. The news agency PTI had told that the Air Force had set up a high-level inquiry into this incident as well.
