Boost to Navy as India successfully flight tests VL-SRSAM

The indigenously built new vertical launch Short Range Surface to air Missile (VLSRSAM) was successfully flight tested off the coast of India on Tuesday, according to a DRDO official.

At 3.08 pm, the DRDO fast reaction Surface to air missile was test launched from the integrated test range at Chandipur near here from a vertical launcher against an electronic target at a very low altitude.

A variety of tracking sensors mounted by ITR, Chandipur, were used to track the missile’s flight rout as well as it’s health data.

According the DRDO, all of the subsystems operated as expected, and the test launch was closely monitored by senior DRDO and Indian navy personnel.

The missile has a range of 50 to 60 kilometers and uses a fibre optic gyroscope for mid-course inertial guidance and active radar homing in terminal phase, according to the company.

The was carried out to test the combined operation off all weapon system components, including the vertical launcher unit with controller, canisterized flight vehicle, weapon control system and other needed for future missile launches from Indian Naval ships.

Senior officials from the DRDO and the Indian Navy were present for the test launch, according to the report. The first trail took place on February 22, 2021 and integrated operation’s consistency, according to the statement.

“RM Shri @rajnathsingh congratulates @DRDO India, @indianavy and industry on the successful flight test of the vertical launch Short Range Surface to air missile,” he said. He stated that this system would “further boost the defense capability of Indian naval ships against aerial threats,” according to a tweet from the RMO( Defense Ministry of India )

On Tuesday morning, before of the tactical missile’s test firing,the Balasore district administration temporarily relocated around 4500 people giving within 2.5 kilometer radius of ITR’s launch pad No 3 from where the weapon with a fake payload was positioned and launched.
