IAC Vikrant heads out for another sea trial

The 40,000 tonne, India’s first indigenous aircraft carrier ( IAC) INS Vikrant heads out for its third sea trial .Earlier ,it complete a five day sea voyage in August. It also completed a 10 day sea trial in October. The IAC is 262m in length, 62m in width and59 m in height. It was started to manufacture in 2009 and is now completed at a whooping cost of Rs 23000 crores .This warship has been constructed by Cochin Shipyard Limited(CSL).The warship will manoeuvre MiG-29K fighter jets, Kamov-31 helicopters, MH-60R multi-role helicopters. It has around 2300 compartments to sustain more than 1700 crew.

President Ramnath Kovind and Vice President  M Venkaiah Naidu have already visited the warship last week in Kochi. M Naidu said that aircraft carrier is a shining example of the nation’s quest for ‘Atmanirbharta’, or self-reliant India. Commander Vivek Madhwal ,Navy spokesperson tells, “The IAC now sails to undertake complex manoeuvres to establish specific readings of how the ship performs in various conditions”.

He adds, “After two successive high profile visits – the President and Vice President of India – within a span of less than two weeks, IAC Vikrant is heading out for the next set of sea trials”. The third phase trial will be witnessed under the guidance of scientists from the Naval Science and Technological Laboratory. It is a DRDO facility at Visakhapatnam.
