INS Kochi and Chennai participates in a Maritime Partnership Exercise

On 17th August, Indian Navy warships, INS Kochi and INS Chennai with a Sea King 42B helicopter participated in a Maritime Partnership Exercise with EUNAVFOR ship Numancia, ANI reports.

The exercise includes like replenishment at sea approaches, tactical maneuvers, cross-deck flying, and a traditional steam past.

During cross deck flying, an Augusta Bell AB212 helicopter ex-Numancia and the IN’s Sea King 42B  landings had been carried out on both ships.

INS Chennai along with INS Kochi on 15 May 2019 took part in the maiden cooperating engagement firing through the employment of the full Joint Taskforce Coordination (JTC) mode which implements the MRSAM / Barak 8 ‘Cooperative Engagement’ operating mode.

INS Kochi was the largest India-made warship during the time of its commissioning. The warship is designed by the Navy’s in-house organization, the Directorate of Naval Design.

It has a displacement of 7,500 tons and it is 164 meters (538 ft) in length and 17 meters (56 ft) at the beam and is pushed forward by four gas turbines and designed to attain speeds in excess of 30 knots (56 km/h).

The ship has been built with advanced stealth features which have been accomplished through the shaping of hulls and the use of radar-transparent deck fittings.
