Here’s more about it
John Wick: Chapter 4
With each of its sequels, the number of John Wick fans has increased, and the fourth sequel to the franchise, released on the 24th of March, 2023 has now set a new franchise opening record. In its opening week, John Wick: Chapter 4 has collected a total of $73.5 million following the previous John Wick movie, John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, which was released in 2019 and had collected a total of $56.8 million on its opening week.
The very first John Wick movie opened with $14 million in 2014 following its sequel, John Wick: Chapter 2 which came out three years later in 2017 and had an opening collection of $30.4 million, which was more than twice that of its previous.
Now looking at the international box office, the fourth sequel to the John Wick franchise collected $64 million and debuted as No.1 in the 71 markets it was released with a total global collection of $137.5 million at its opening. Taking note of the $100 million spent on producing the movie, this is a great success a movie could have. The movie has also achieved a grade “A” on CinemaScore and a 95% on Rotten Tomatoes.
As per the report on Variety, it is also to be noted that in the past 40 years, only nine franchises were able to set a new opening record with their fourth movie, among which only five were able to make a progress in collection with each of its sequels. If we take the original John Wick movie, the movie collected a total of $86.1 million globally which grew to $174.3 million and then to $328.3 million respectively with its second and third sequels. The fourth sequel is also expected to have a growth in its total collection before it leaves the theatre.
It is also to be noted that John Wick: Chapter 4 is Keanu Reeves’s second biggest opening in his career followed by The Matrix Reloaded and is also the second biggest opening of 2023. The movie also has the twelfth biggest opening ever recorded for an “R” rated movie as well.
