Maboroshi, 2023 Japanese animated film written and directed by Mari Okada to be available for streaming on Netflix from 15 January 2024

Maboroshi, the 2023 Japanese animated film written and directed by Mari Okada is scheduled to be available for streaming on Netflix from 15 January 2024. The film was earlier released in Japanese theaters in September 2023. The film is now listed on Netflix’s ‘New Upcoming’ section with a ‘Remind Me’ button which you can activate to be notified when the film is available on the platform.

Seimei Kidokoro has also co-directed the film with Mari Okada.

Netflix Anime released the trailer of Maboroshi on their YouTube channel on 26 November 2023. You can watch the trailer here.

Premise: The film plots around a factory explosion that plunges a small town into a timeless freeze. During this catastrophe, 14-year-old Masamune and his pals try to battle and navigate through a quickly collapsing reality.

Cast: The film features the voices of Junya Enoki, Reina Ueda, Misaki Kuno, Koji Seto, Kento Hayashi, Taku Yashiro, Tasaku Hatanaka, Daiki Kobayashi, Ayaka Saito, Maki Kawase, Yukiyo Fujii and Setsuji Sato in major roles.

The film is produced by MAPPA and distributed by Warner Bros. Japan. Manabu Otsuka is also one of the producers of the film.
