Netflix removed its cheapest ad free “Basic Plan” in US and UK

Netflix has removed the cheapest ad-free plan in the US and UK after silently removing it in Canada. This basic plan worth $ 9.99 a month allowed users to have access to Netflix’s entire library without any ads. Now that it has been removed, it would push subscribers to either go for ad-supported standard plans or for expensive streaming plans.

In an FAQ on its sign-up page, the company wrote that “the Basic plan is no longer available for new or rejoining members. If you are currently on the Basic plan, you can remain on this plan until you change plans or cancel your account.”. Basic plan subscribers need not worry as the change will be applicable to new or rejoining members.

Those who were either looking ahead to switch to cheaper plans won’t have any option other than an ad-supported plan that doesn’t let download films and TV episodes and requires you to see ads while enjoying your favorite series or show. Netflix has earlier said that ad plans are similar to its ad-free plans as time spent by users on the platform brings them more revenue.

The plan to drop the basic plan has not been done abruptly because Netflix started to hide the basic plan when new users signed up to the platform requiring them to click on “see all plans” and recently removed it in Canada.
