Mohammed Zubair, Co-founder of Alt News, was detained for offending religious values and encouraging rioting
Delhi: On June 27, Monday, Mohammed Zubair, the co-founder of Alt News got arrested by police. He is accused of offending religious sentiments and encouraging rioting.
According to the Indian Penal Code, the co-founder of the Alt News has been charged with violating sections 153 and 295A for deliberately insulting religion or religious beliefs which led to riots.
The Delhi Police Special Cell arrested Zubair after receiving a Twitter notification regarding tweets that threatened intergroup harmony. He was asked to appear in court today to testify in a 2020 case, but was arrested right away after this case was filed.
Pratik Sinha, a co-founder of Alt News, claimed in a tweet that after repeated requests, neither the required notice nor a copy of the FIR were issued.
Zubair will be presented to the court by the Cyber Crime Unit representatives in order to request remand so that the case may be investigated further. He was detained, according to the police, as there was enough proof on record.
