5 Navy Officers Arrested by CBI Including 1 Commander Level Officer for leaking confidential information over Submarine
The agency has conducted searches at 19 different sites, seizing and examining crucial papers and digital data.
Officials claimed Tuesday that the CBI had arrested five people, including a commander-rank Navy officer, for allegedly leaking classified information about an ongoing submarine project in exchange for unlawful gratification.
According to them, the agency began action in a secret operation last month in which two retired Navy officials and as many private individuals, in addition to the Navy officer, were apprehended.
They said the agency has conducted searches at 19 locations across the country, including Delhi, Mumbai, and Hyderabad, where vital documents and digital evidence have been seized and are being investigated.
The commander is accused of discussing key data about the current modernisation project of Kilo class submarines with the two retired officers for alleged illicit gratification, according to them.
The agency’s Anti Corruption Unit, which deals with sensitive and high-profile corruption cases, was charged with uncovering the information breach, after which the operation was launched, they added.
According to them, the team has questioned a number of other officers and ex-servicemen who had regular contact with the arrested officer and retired soldiers.
According to them, the CBI is conducting a forensic study of the officer’s digital products to see if the material has fallen into the hands of people with vested interests.
