Ministry of External Affairs spoke on Prophet Muhammad insult row
Arindam Bagchi, MEA Spokesperson on Prophet Muhammad insult row, “Action already taken on religious hate speech”, regarding the recent controversial remarks about Prophet Muhammad by former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma.
The comment on Prophet Muhammad made on live television by a BJP spokesperson sparked a diplomatic row between India and Gulf nations.
During a television debate, the Gulf nations accused Nupur Sharma of making derogatory remarks about Prophet Muhammad.
Following the uproar, the ruling BJP in India suspended its spokeswoman Nupur Sharma after she made comments about Prophet Mohammed, and the party’s Delhi media head, Naveen Kumar Jindal, was also expelled for his comments on social media.
The governments of Qatar, Kuwait, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Afghanistan, and Pakistan condemned the remarks as “insulting” and demanded an explanation from India.
