The Queen who defeated mighty Muhammad Ghori in the battlefield

We have often heard stories of women winning on the battlefield.  Rani Lakshmibai, Rani Abbaka Chowta, and Kittur Chenamma are some examples. There is another woman who is not as famous as them and her story needs to be heard. Naiki Devi, the queen of Chalukya born in goa and was Queen of Gujarat. She belonged to Chalukya Clan and was the widow of Ajay Pala, Solanki king.  It started in the year 1173 when the mighty Muhammad Ghori had already conquered the Ghaznavids in Afghanistan. He came to India after capturing the states of Multan and the fortress of Uch. his new target was to capture the fortified town of Anhilwara Patan. Patan was the capital of Gujarat’s Chavda and Chalukya dynasties in medieval times. It was established by Vanraj Chavada, a Chavda king.

The defeat of Muhammad Ghori

After the death of his husband, she served as a queen regime as his son Maharaja-II was just a child. Naiki Devi and mother of Mularaja-II fought the armies of mleccha king and her army and the troop of war elephants crushed the massive army. After this defeat, Muhammad Ghori fled with bodyguards and forever changed his mind to invade India again.

Sexist Thought of Muhammad Ghori

When Ghori got to know that he is capturing a town that only has a queen. he found it easy and thought “what would a woman and a child do”? This overconfident did not help him. He was defeated by a strong woman. And yet somehow the history of Naikidevi is little known to the people of India.
