What’s going on with Union Cabinet Minister Smriti Iran’s daughter and National Congress leaders?

Indian National Congress demanded that Union Minister Smriti Irani “should apologize” for reportedly “manipulating the licenses” after sending a legal notice to Congress leaders Jairam Ramesh and Pawan Khera.

Indian Congress leader Pawan Khera allegedly said on July 23 that Srimiti Irani is lying as she once tweeted congratulating her daughter for owning a restaurant. He said on Twitter, “Which Smriti Irani is lying? That Smriti Irani who praised her daughter’s restaurant on April 14, 2022 or that Smriti Irani who is saying today that her daughter doesn’t have any restaurant?”

The National Congress leaders have allegedly told that the Union Minister’s 18-year-old daughter was running a bar illegally in Goa and at the same time they demanded minister Smriti Irani be sacked from the Cabinet. In response to the allegation made by Congress leaders, Cabinet Minister Irani sent out a notice emphasizing that she will initiate a civil and criminal proceeding against them if they fail to deliver an “unconditional” apology. She sent out the notice to both Congress leaders and to ‘Mahila” Congress leader Netta D’Souza.

According to the Cabinet Minister’s notice, “The false allegations were intended to hurt the reputation of our client as a minister and a person in public life, and also to outrage her modesty and that of her daughter…These aspirations of our client’s (Irani) daughter are sought to be cruelly marred, jeopardised and prejudiced by the addressees (Congress leaders) through their inhumane, insensitive and false narratives as collateral damage. The insistence of addressees to invoke value systems of our client with a reference to her ‘sanskar’ is an effort to make our client and her young daughter social outcasts by proclaiming that by the act of ‘running’ a bar our client and her young daughter are women of disrepute.”

The Cabinet Minister stated that the National Congress leaders have become morally and ethically so bankrupt that they are now targeting a mere 18-year-old university student to pursue their political aspirations.

However, the National Congress’s spokesperson Shama Mohamed denied Irani’s statement and said on Twitter, “For what? There is ample proof that her daughter was running the restaurant. Instead of filing defamation cases against Indian National Congress, Smriti Irani should apologize to the nation for allegedly manipulating the licenses !”

Meanwhile, Youth Congress workers such as Goa Youth Congress President Varad Mardolkar and state unit spokesman Amarnath Panjikar protested outside the alleged Goa restaurant on July 24 that is claimed to be run by Irani’s daughter. The protesters demanded the restaurant be shut down. Youth Congress leaders also claimed that the restaurant’s license was renewed in the name of a dead person adding that the Cabinet Minister can not hide behind the emotional statements.

According to the sources, the Cabinet Minister further said in a press conference that Congress is publically assassinating and mutilating her daughter’s character and she will take legal steps to find out the reason behind this allegation. The lawyer of Minister Irani’s daughter said that they are neither owners nor operating the restaurant in any way.
