Why paneer butter masala is trending on Twitter?
According to the government’s new notion of GST implementation taken on 47th GST Council meeting on June 28-29,2022, Indian consumers have to pay 5% GST on pre-packed food items such as packaged paneer, atta, and curd. The new law regarding the imposition of GST on all branded manufacturing food items has stirred the netizens to take their frustration out on social networking sites in fear of its impact on the monthly budget.
Netizens started reacting creatively on Twitter regarding the new GST imposition on packaged food items and reportedly they came up with the idea of calculating the amount of GST on paneer butter masala. Some of them even jokingly started sharing the amount of GST on each item of paneer butter masala food preparation as the “New Maths Question.”

Some of them even started taking references from the famous scene of 3 Idiots (2009), the popular film by Rajkumar Hirani featuring Aamir Khan. The scene involved a dialogue that some netizens believe is relevant. The dialogue was narrated, “Paneer toh beta kuch dino me itti itti thaliyo me sonar ki dukaan pe bikega.”

Some netizens even tweeted that it’s better to have meat on the plate than to become only vegetarian by comparing paneer tikka masala being much cheap in terms of total GST. And some said now they will only be tasting paneer butter masala from other’s plates.
Good that I like Paneer Tikka Masala more than #PaneerButterMasala at least I won't have to pay GST on all 3 different items when buying while cooking the said dish at home!

However, the Twitter surge of the Paneer butter masala trend seems hilarious but social media is upset with the rising hospital bills that have been included in the GST regime where the customers are expected to pay 5% GST on hospital rooms with a rent above 5000.
