New Orleans: Gunshot outside a high school graduation ceremony killed 1 and injured 2 persons
According to cops, one person was murdered and two people were injured in a gunshot at a high school graduation ceremony in New Orleans.
Officials said the incident began after a brawl broke out “between two girls” on the Xavier University campus during the Morris Jeff High School graduation ceremony.
The elderly woman who died was the fatally injured victim, while the other two victims were both males who are likely to live.
“A fight broke out between two females and it escalated to gunfire,” said New Orleans police spokesperson Gary Sheets.
According to the New Orleans Police Department, one accused was apprehended at the area, and the injured were taken to a hospital by New Orleans EMS.
“Investigation underway into shooting incident on campus of Xavier University, in area of Convocation Center. Initial information shows three gunshot wound victims transported to local hospital via EMS. Subject has been detained at the scene,” NOPD tweeted on Tuesday.
After the wedding, witnesses informed Fox8 that a battle broke out, with between five and a dozen gunshots heard.
According to WDSU-TV, the incident was sparked by an altercation in a parking lot.
“This is supposed to be a joyous occasion and it is very said for us to have to go through something like this. This is horrible,” an unnamed witness told the station.
Every year, the university’s Convocation Center hosts a series of high school graduation ceremonies around the city.
The shooting came just 2 weeks after four people suffered in a shooting outside a Southeastern Louisiana University graduation ceremony in Hammond.
