Orange Alert issued in Jammu, Kashmir, Himachal and Ladakh as weather gets worse
After a brief dry period, the northwestern parts of India are all set to experience widespread rains over the next four days. The latest forecasts suggests that two western disturbances will potentially impact the Western Himalayan Region and adjoining northwest India this week.
Weather disturbances like snow and rain with isolated thunderstorms, lightning or hail are expected over the Western Himalayan Regions. Moreover, there are also possibilities of very light rain or drizzle over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi from March 8 to 10.
Due to such harsh weather conditions, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Alert to a few of these regions.
There are three levels of alerts- Red, Orange and Yellow in decreasing order of emergency. An Orange ALert indicates the population to be wary of significant damage that might be inflicted due to unsuitable weather conditions.
As per The Weather Channel meteorologists, heavy snow is possible over high altitude regions from Thursday morning to Friday afternoon due to slightly active convection.
