Death to Putin posts not to be allowed by Facebook
Last week, Facebook allowed temporary relaxation for users to Post threats or violence against the Russian military on Thursday. Apart from Ukraine, the other countries who are allowed to post would be Armenia, Azerbaijan, Estonia, Georgia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Russia and Slovakia.
After Meta’s decision allowing the public to allow posts calling for Violence against Russia, it banned both Facebook and Instagram in their territory Completely. But before that, Meta blocked Russia’s state-backed media accounts in Europe and also blocked all advertising business from Russia.
Meanwhile, The Public started to share posts like” Calls for the death of a head of state” likely to refer to Russian President Vladimir Putin and plans like how and where to kill the head of a started spreading on Social media.
Meta’s President of Global affairs Nick Clegg Posted a statement on Friday saying that it aims to ease this relaxation to protect Ukrainian rights and doesn’t signal tolerance for “discrimination, harassment or violence towards Russians”.
He further explained ” We are now narrowing the focus to make it explicitly clear in the guidance and it is never to be interpreted as condoning violence against Russians in general,” wrote in an internal post which was reviewed by Bloomberg. He also added that revised policies can be applied only for Ukrainians, not for others Clegg said, ” We also do not permit calls to assassinate a head of state” without mentioning Putin’s name.
Now Meta doesn’t allow users to post such kinds of things on Facebook or Instagram.
