Denial of resignations of Gandhis at CWC Top Meet tomorrow
Congress has strongly denied that Gandhi – Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra – will resign from the decision-making body, the Congress Working Committee or CWC, which meets tomorrow.
“The allegation that they are resigning due to unnamed sources is not fair at all,” Congress spokeswoman Randeep Surjewala said this evening. The party convened a CWC meeting at 4pm tomorrow, three days after the by-elections in 5 provinces.
0/5 points in Congress in the recent election also sparked criticism of the Gandhi family and provided impetus for a complete overhaul and change of leadership by the number of party leaders – a request that has so far been tied to the “IG-23” or 23 “dissenting” party written to Sonia. Gandhi two years ago.
The group lost Punjab, one of the last major provinces under its control, to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), and failed to fight hard in three other provinces where it hoped to return – Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur. In Uttar Pradesh, where the campaign was led by Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Congress won 2 of the 403 seats, losing 5 of the last votes. The party received only 2.4% of the vote.
Congress leader Shashi Tharoor, a G-23 member, on Thursday wrote on Twitter that the party could not avoid change.
